Community Assistance and Hairdressing

kesNot two words that you often see together but a wonderful simple way for the community to help local students and themselves at the same time.

A few weeks ago a leaflet was enclosed with my Council papers asking for people to attend the King Edmund School Salon.  Well my hair certainly needed re-doing but did they really need me?  It transpired that they did, still a little uncertain I was asked to pop along for a patch test – impressed I cannot recall ever having one done before.  Patch test fine I duly made an appointment and turned up on the day to be pleasantly greeted by one of the sixth form students and treatments, options etc were discussed in a relaxed and friendly manner with great attention paid to my simple request to banish the grey.

The students are fully supervised at all times and it was fascinating to be part of their learning process.  My pleasant and friendly stylist started a little tentatively but with reassurance from her mentors soon gained in confidence.

The result:  far the best I’ve ever had at a fraction of the cost and for the first time the grey has been hidden!

Downsides:  no tea (health and safety issues apparently).  Only open Tuesdays.

Upsides: Not only did I get a superb hair do at a fraction of normal rates but I get the added satisfaction of being involved in the training of our youngsters.

The students need heads to practice on – especially with colouring – so come on ladies treat yourselves, your purse and help your community by phoning 01702 545771 x 3238 for a great experience!
